So near yet so far. After Lee Chong Wei won his semi final match against S.Korea's Lee Hyun Il 21-18, 13-21, 21-13 on Friday, he was going to play against Lin Dan in the final. The whole nation was hoping for Chong Wei to win the first olympics gold medal for Malaysia. But during the final, he lost to China's Lin Dan 21-12, 21-8. He looked out of sorts and was feeling the pressure. I think he lost on mental, speed and strength to Lin Dan. It was Chong Wei's worst defeat by Lin Dan. Although he did not win the gold medal, he is still the country's hero. He bettered Rashid Sidek's record by winning the first badminton singles silver medal. Rashid Sidek got the bronze in 1992 or 1996 (I forgotten the year). After 50 over years competing in the olympics, an elusive olympics gold medal is still far from getting.
From L to R: Chong Wei, Lin Dan, Chen Jin
I hope Malaysia will fare better in the London Olympics 2012 than this olympics and hopefully they can get a gold.
